I prefer a gentler approach when it comes to my relationship with obstacles  ……. well most of the time!  I don’t often get stuck over analzying their confusing story.  Such scrambled tight thinking I’ve found never has happy endings.  And besides, it always leaves me feeling depleted, more confused and worse for wear.

My gentle approach to perceived obstacles is simple.  Be prepared. They happen anyway!  Yep, for years I’ve practiced a simple ritual that I know creates spaciousness – both in and around me – to allow any guidance, lessons or answers to float easily into my awareness when situations call for them.


The ritual my friends is mantra meditation.  But more specifically the “Ganesha Mantra Meditation”.  Another form of prayer if you like.  Repeating words steeped high in vibrations to shift energy.

Mantra meditations are sung, whispered, chanted, listened too or soundlessly repeated (108 times traditionally).

They are wise ancient Sansksrit (Hindu) words.  And the 108 repetition is believed to soak into the 108 main energy lines (nadis) in your body.

Their residual lingering essence extends way beyond the ten minutes or so repeating them.   This I know for a fact, from personal experience, time and time again.  I am still, to this day always amazed!!

Following is one of my all time favourite mantra’s to help dissolve obstacles in life and clear the pathway for new beginnings.  It’s a wonderful ritual that I included in my recent Deep Rest retreat in Tuscany, Italy last month.

Mantra to remove obstacles:

“Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha”

It’s essence is simple – dissolve obstacles and clear pathways for new beginnings.

How to practice:

I’m not always so formal with my mantra meditations.  I don’t always sit with my back straight, holding my mala beads chanting out aloud.  I mix it up.  But one thing is certain.  I’m always present with them.

I may chant them silently to myself in the bath, on my morning walk, whilst laying in bed or whilst sipping my cup of chai tea.  The ganesha mantra usually takes around 8 minutes and I weave it willingly  into my day  – even if its last thing at night laying in bed.

I often listen to a divine recording by Deva Premal.  It helps me greatly on days where my mind is a little sloppy or I’m needing the sound of soft instruments and a gentle guiding voice. I bought my version from itunes for $1.69

Mantra for peace:

If you’re in search of another fabulous mantra meditation then I can highly recommend  “om shanti om”.  Invokes peace.  Helps release tension, anger or hurt.

Super easy to remember and has a habit of quickly transporting you to your peaceful place. I love it.
