Conquer Everyday Stress With A Dash Of Zen:

This month I’ve hand selected (after much searching) a book called The Anywhere, Anytime Chill Guide: 77 Simple Strategies for Serenity by Kate Hanley.   Kate is founder of msmindbody.com,  a contributing editor to Body+Soul and a regular contributor on stress relief for goodhousekeeping.com

She’s a frequent guest on Martha Stewart Living Radio and lives in Brooklyn with her partner and brand new baby.   Congratulations Kate. We have an upcoming interview with Kate, right here on the Rejuvenation Lounge so stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, leave a thoughtful comment below to win one of three copies of her book.

A big thanks to Kate for being so generous with the give-aways, and don’t you just love her cheeky smile.

Five Reasons Why I Love This Book:

The Anywhere, Anytime Chill Guide:

1:  Kate gives clear, step by step instructions with pictures on how to relieve specific stressful situations. It’s broken down into simple sections. Time needed, instructions, modifications and benefits.

2:  No matter what your stressful situation you’ll certainly be able to find a topic that covers it.  Topics include fight with husband/boyfriend, hangover, meeting people for the first time, afternoon slump, stuck on hold, tight back, shoulders and neck, depressed, cramps, getting dumped, stuck in traffic and believe me lots, lots more.

3: Kate’s approach is very holistic which I love.  She draws on yoga, meditation, nutrition, mindfulness, eastern philosophies such as Chinese medicine and breathing techniques.

4:  77 situations and 77 do anywhere remedies.  What more could a girl ask for.  I love the “saying no” pose.  Gives you the inner strength to say no more often.

5:  Here’s a handy trick for when you have a headache:  This is an awesome acupressure exercise that targets your  head, neck, jaw and face area and its found on your left hand.  The fleshy bit between your thumb and index finger. Place your right thumb  on top and your right index finger just below.  Apply moderate pressure and hold for 30 seconds.

I have used #5 for many years. It was originally introduced to me by a friend who suggested it as a remedy for an upset stomach. I haven’t tried it on a headache, but I’m going to.

I’m interested in the “saying no” pose. I’m a lot better than I used to be, but like most women… I feel like a meanie saying no. It’s really
something I’ve been working on. Secretly, no is my favorite word lol.

Carole, the breathing techniques you Twitter about have really saved me time and time again. The reminders always seem to come at an opportune time.

I’ve trained myself that if Carole says to spend a couple of minutes on my breathing - I just stop what I’m doing and do it right then. I’ve never been sorry.

If you are O.K. with shipping to the States, I could really use that book for my youngest sister. By her own admission, she is “terrible” at relaxation. Recently, when she was under a lot of stress, I talked her through a guided meditation on the phone. I spoke slowly, soothingly, and thought I had brought her to a place of serene relaxation, when she suddenly said: “This isn’t working.” ;-) I laughed, and said, “O.K., let’s try this again…”

As for me, I’ve made use of many of your relaxation and de-stressing tips since I started reading your blog. The one on using black tourmaline and smoky quartz to diffuse negativity really helped when I was dealing with a really, um, negative coworker a couple of weeks ago. I often hold one or both of these stones when I’m lying in bed unwinding to go to sleep. Anyway, thanks so much for providing a resource for peace and self-care!

Carol, thank you so much for the introduction to Kate and her book! After reading this little interview, I popped over to her website, watched her web clips, read some of her body and soul articles, and signed up for her newsletter. Looking forward to her little tips to bring relaxation into my daily life, and as a new reader to your blog, enjoying your tips as well!

    Peace, H.

p.s. if I should be so lucky, would love me some ‘chill guide’ for the bedside table!

Well, I’m not sure if this is a thoughtful comment but I could REALLY make use of a book like this. I sooooo need to learn ways to chill. Particularly at the moment. :)

Just reading your interview with Kate (I’m a little behind in my reader at the moment). Great stuff!!!

WOW! I just came across a link to “Anywhere, Anytime” and your Site from arthritistoday.org. What a great thing!!! I would really like to have a copy. I maintain a major NASA facility in South Mississippi where we test rocket engines. It’s VERY stressful. I can use ALL the help I can get! Keep up the great work.
