Put Yourself First For One Month:

by Carole Fogarty

“Love yourself enough to say no to others’ demands on your time and energy.  Step back & reassess the situation”

I am encouraging you (and myself) to put yourself first for one whole month. It’s not about ignoring your family members or friends or becoming totally self absorbed.  It’s simply about making sure you are rejuvenating yourself sufficiently on a physical, emotional and spiritual level and not giving out more energy than you receive.

This is an opportunity to:

  • eat and drank well – you’d be nourished and hydrated
  • be conscious of your breathing – oxygenate your body and use your exhale to release stress and worry
  • daily intentional rest – getting a balance between busy and calm
  • say no more often without feeling guilty – strong personal boundaries
  • soften your thinking
  • be kind to yourself more often
  • seek silence and alone time
  • add more simple pleasures
  • spent more time outside in nature

It’s all about energy “in” and energy “out”

This month I encourage you to observe just how much time you spend on giving energy out compared to receiving energy in. The ultimate goal of course is to add more and more moments of receiving energy in; so you feel full, whole and complete rather than half empty, drained and depleted.

A more balanced and equal exchange of energy in and out is what we are all aiming for to rejuvenate ourselves naturally.

Here’s a couple of great article to get you started:  100 wise tips to feel better fast and boost your energy now or start a walking meditation or treat yourself to a chocolate facial

Start by focusing on your breath:

When your breathing is shallow and fast your thinking is hurried and fast. You talk fast, eat fast, drink fast, become anxious and work fast. It’s a classic symptom of stress.

By observing your breathe and becoming conscious of slower, deeper breathes you are sending quality, life giving oxygen into your body and brain. You greatly calm your mind and actions along with releasing stress and tension with each long slow exhale. All this and much more happens when you simply choose to put yourself first and focus on your breath.

I made a good start today by making time to listen to that meditation CD (which has been so fabulous for me!!!).

I’ve just started putting aside some time on a Friday to reflect on the week and consider any changes I want to make to my life balance. Today I wrote down that I wanted to spend more time OFF the computer and OUTSIDE. :)

I like ALL of the suggestions.

I think I’ll also try to focus more on my breath.

Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement. I’m going to link to this post as part of my Smiley Saturday tomorrow. :)

This post was so helpful to me. It’s inspiring, comforting, and encouraging. I’ve been trying to work on rejuvenation, especially after a long, exhausting week that leaves me feeling depleted. And too often I neglect tending to my regenerative needs.

Thank you for the wonderful advice, and the warm, compassionate way you expressed it. I really feel like I can do it!

I too accept the challenge. I already eat and drink quite well but this week I have finally (after months of saying I would) added green tea to my repetoire. I’ve also been doing a lot more running than I used to.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and more importantly willingness to add a dash of rejuvenation back into your life. I know I most certainly need lots of it at the moment.

I can feel its going to be a fabulous month for all of us.

Go forth and rejuvenate.

This is just what I need. I’m going to focus on getting grounded, releasing stress and worry and finding things that bring me joy. Might need to work on my boundaries to make all this happen.
Anyway thanks for the prod to get me going.

cheers Lenny

Excellent post!! Much needed at the right time. Lately I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and stressed, I’m realizing that I have been putting others before me. Which I know it’s bad but sometimes I can’t help it. By the time I think of me, I’m too tired. Which leads to emptiness. I’m gonna give this a test and put myself first for a month.
