Colour Therapy – Change your Underwear, Change your Mood.

by Carole Fogarty

“Did you know that yellow is the first color perceived by the human eye”

Colour is an amazing gift from nature. It is a living energy that is perceived and absorbed by your senses. It has a subtle yet potent interaction with your emotions, nervous system and brain.

The colours you wear can reflect how you are feeling to the world, you can intentionally wear colours to shift your mood or hide from the world (blacks shrinks your presence)

There are colours which stimulate the thinking (left) side of your brain and colours which stimulate the creative (right) side of your brain. There are colours to help you relax and others to energize and excite. Whilst some colours encourage communication others evoke stillness.

Below are some useful insights from my journey with color workshops over the past two decades.

Change your underwear – Change your mood:

Simply by changing the colour of your underwear you can subtly fuel your energy reserves or balance your emotional needs. It is easy to do, no one need know what you are doing and I guarantee you will feel a difference.

Feeling tired grab a red pair, stressed out try some calming blue, emotionally upset go for the orange or in need of some optimism switch to yellow.

Colour your world for balance:

1: Red will give you a boost of energy whilst stimulating your immune system. Red can activate your appetite – beware. It evokes action and passion and a perfect colour if you tend to be a procrastinator.

2: Orange will allow you to digest your emotions without holding onto stuff and encourage emotional balance and optimism. It is warm hearted and offers a sense of community whilst offering a feeling of tolerance. Perfect colour for social gatherings.

3: Blue is tranquil and peaceful. It has been proven to reduce pain levels. It aids in acquiring inner peace and supports creativity. Blue is associated with the right hand side of the brain.

4: Green refreshes, encourages growth, is balancing and healing. It is nurturing and associated with the heart. Green promotes prosperity and well being. Green of course is a combination of blue and yellow.

5: Yellow lifts your spirits and offers you a positive feeling. It evokes confidence and joy. It is connected to your mental thinking and improves attention to detail and academic achievement. It improves concentration and clarity of thought.

6: Purple is known to heighten your intuition. It is similar to blue in that it offers comfort and calm. A great colour for meditation.

Experiment with colour:

Don’t take my word for it though, experiment for yourself. Notice how different you feel wearing blue or orange or even red undies or any item of clothing.

To further excite you into experimenting with colour therapy I’ve added a few special treats to whet your appetite.

Colour your wallet for abundance:

Years ago after listening to a color therapist a group of my girlfriends all switched to green wallets. Green represents growth, abundance and prosperity. It is the colour most often associated with money. In Feng Shui green relates to the wood energy which is also associated with wealth. Lose weight with colour:

Research has shown that blue is the most likely color to suppress your appetite. A blue light in your fridge may be just the trick you need. Blue is not a color you think of when you imagine food. Nature does not offer many blue foods except for a few such as blueberries. Red will stimulate your appetite and encourage fast eating. Notice how many take-aways have red signs or decor.

Red is my favourite colour and the colour of most of my clothes. Even my counselling room is read (not that I counsel anymore, I do supervision of workers).
Interesting about the undies though. I wonder if many people pick their undies by colour? I chose by what ever is on sale mostly.

Hi Megan,

I’m curious as to the impact red would have on your clients. Like any excess of color it can work in the opposite.

Whilst yellow connects with the left side of the brain too much yellow can cause you to over think.

Likewise with red. Too much red can overstimulate your emotions perhaps leading to short burst of temper. This however may work well in the clinic as it might release the squashed down emotions that your client is trying to suppress, hide or forget about.

Interesting.

Peace, love and more chocolate

Hi,

I am just beginning to study color therapy and I can stay that it works. Today was my first day REALLY. But as I have studied and read different sites when I wear red I do feel confident. But since I know that the first chakra corresponds to the color red and its in the underwear region I decided to try some red underwear today. And I can definitely feel a difference. Things are pulsating, I am vibrant energized. I also but on a red jumpsuit given to me that I have NEVER worn. I feel almost jittery, because I usually wear black, brown, and cream-caramel. So, my adventure begins. But there is definitely a difference. When I looked in my wardrobe there is virtually NO color in it. So, I am going to change that!!! And also the types of fabrics, as well.

Hi! I am just discovering your website and back-reading. I LOVE how color can effect your moods and energy. But I am curious…My significant other is color blind. Not just red-green, totally color blind. How do you think NOT being able to see colors (as most people view them) effects things?

Hi! I’ve read that even blind people can “sense” colors. So, I don’t think being color blind makes a different in how color effects you. I happened to find a set of underwear that has the seven color therapy colors and I’ve been wearing them. Even though I cannot see them when I’m wearing them, I think they are working! They are so fun and pretty that I gave my sister a set as a gift and she said she is loving them. There is a website that carries them http://www.puttinonthebliss.com As they say on their homepage… live each day colorfully!
