Rejuvenate You At Work:

Multi tasking is out and pleasurable, easy living is in.

Multi tasking dilutes your focus, splits your energy, keeps you stuck in your head, disconnects you from your intuition and feelings, stresses your nervous system. pushes you hurriedly through your day so you flat out miss any possible moments of pleasure. Gosh, I’m absolutely exhausted just writing this sentence.

With a passionate desire to marinate and fully flavour my life with simplicity I promise from this moment forward, never to multi task again. Gone are the days of eating and drinking at my computer along with attempting to cook dinner, write a blog article and help the kids with their homework all at the same time. Phew! What was I thinking. Sanity is about to be restored by eliminating multi tasking once and for all.

The need to remove multi tasking from my life became glaringly obvious when it was mentioned in each and everyone of the books I have been reading this month. The book which most grabbed my attention as it is aligned with my desire to simplify my life yet live as inspirationally as possible is by Timothy Ferris and called – The four hour work week (this is the link to his blog) If you haven’t read his book then you may wish to explore another model by which your life can be joyfully lived.

Imagine how different your life will be without multi tasking.

The mere thought of not multi tasking every minute of my life I know will totally change the flow and more importantly the level of enjoyment I get out of each day. It will allow me to align more clearly to my dreams and finish each day with a sense of deep satisfaction.

Following are the twenty most obvious benefits that can be gained by removing the inefficient, energy draining, pleasure sucking habit of multi tasking:

  1. I know your head will feel lighter and your thinking will be much, much clearer
  2. With clearer thinking you will then be able to make cleverer choices. Yeah!
  3. With clearer thinking you will stay on track with your dreams (no distractions here)
  4. By not scattering your focus you will make less mistakes and have less accidents
  5. You will certainly feel less rushed as there are not 101 things going on in your head all at the same time, each desperately trying to get your attention
  6. You will be more grounded and therefore pay closer attention to your personal needs
  7. When your personal needs are met you feel calmer and more nourished by life
  8. Time will slow down for you as you approach one task at a time
  9. Your intuitive abilities will be heightened
  10. You will feel calmer as you are not rushing and pushing frantically through your day.
  11. You will save bucket loads of energy as you can calmly focus on the job at hand and not throw it away uncaringly with stress
  12. You won’t feel as stressed and therefore snap less often at your partner, kids or friends
  13. You’ll be able to absorb yourself more into the moment, live in the now as you have the ability to focus 100% of your attention. There are many hidden benefits to be gained by living in the moment.
  14. You will have more energy as its not being unnecessarily scattered and wasted into all directions
  15. You will not be living in your head and be able to sense and feel situations around you much more
  16. Gone are the days of wasting hours getting sidetracked and distracted on the computer as your focus is now clearer and you now have the ability to stay on task until its completed
  17. You no longer skim through the magical moments in your day instead you rest in their brilliance
  18. You will feel connected to the natural rhythm and pulse of the universe
  19. Your breathing will be calmer and deeper as opposed to quick and shallow
  20. Your health and overall being will improve

As my yoga teacher says there is no where to go and no where to be except here in this present moment. Remember to breath and feel the needs of your body, mind and soul.

Thanks for reading my article.

Peace, love and lots of pleasurable easy living to you all, Carole.

What if you’re naturally pre-disposed to multi-task? Certainly finishing one task at a time has countless benefits, but assuming multi-tasking is not adding unwarrranted stress, is it necessary to stop?

I agree that there are certainly times that we should not multi-task. Children need to know that there are times that they are being paid full attention and that they are important enough to let the phone go to message bank etc. But I think that there are times that it is worth multi-taksing. For example when one task requires almost no thinking. I can easily have a great catch up phone call with a friend, whilst I am baking an easy recipe, ironing or folding the washing. But for those dedicated tasks, there is certainly times for pure concentration.

Thanks for your comments. I guess in my quest to simplify my life I realize the unnecessary stress we are under when we spend our whole day multi tasking.

I now when sitting down to have a cuppa will not try and read or phone a girl friend or sit in front of the computer but simply be with myself and really enjoy the cup of tea.

Deleting multi tasking surely brings us closer to living more fully in the moment. Your senses then become more alive as energy is taken away from the head and its busy thinking habits.

Peace, love and chocolate

Carole
