Rejuvenate Your Soul:  Marinate More Often:

When there is a feeling inside of me whispering day after day that something is missing in my life or something needs to be changed then I know I’ve been ignoring the guiding wisdom from my inner wise voice.

I’ve been too busy with my three boys, life and my business. I’ve usually skipped a few meditations thinking I need to catch up with work, jump straight onto the computer first thing, missing my much needed early morning rituals and think I’m saving time by not going to a couple of yoga classes.

Where does “saved time” get stored anyway?

If I continue along this path the separation becomes greater and greater between my soul and mind/body. My mind without directive from my soul’s inner wise voice starts to run the show and let me tell you, it’s not clever and makes stupid mistakes. What was I thinking?

My mind will then quickly take me out of universal flow when in fact my soul and inner wise voice knows and IS the universal flow. The synchronicity once present in my life begins to fragment and dilute.

Lucky for me over the years I’ve found a few well being solutions that can flick off all the unimportant stuff and open up the communication channels again between my soul and mind/body.

Keep the communication alive between you and your inner wise voice:

1 - Do nothing for one hour:

Simple but true. It’s easy in theory to do and the effects are immediate. I promise.

Find yourself a soothing space to just sit and BE, preferably surrounded by a bit of nature, in your backyard, next to your favourite tree or flower bed and then do nothing for one whole hour, not even meditate. One hour by the way is a whole 60 minutes.

Sure your mind and body might complain and get agitated in fact it will probably feel like it wants to explode. That’s fine let them. You are perfectly safe and it’s only energy. After a short while they will lose their dominance and soon realize they have nothing to do, no where to go and nothing to cling too. All their seemingly important distractions, urgencies and complaints will just disappear into the background. The calm stillness waiting patiently deep inside will soon rise gently to the surface.

Just in case you were wondering what “do nothing for one hour” means I’ll spell it out for you. No eating, meditating, reading, writing or listening to music. Just BE still.

Do I have trouble doing this? You bet. Is it worth it, absolutely!

Afterwards, I guarantee you feel surprisingly thrilled with yourself.

The best part is all the energy distractions and drains before will now seem frivolous and unimportant as a clear channel once again has been opened up to your souls gentle guidance.

2 - Empty your day:

If the above seems a little too radical and just out of your reach for the moment then start saying NO to open up your time and space around you to allow your inner wise voice to rise to the surface.

A day packed with so much activity, stimulation and busyness literally crowds the energies around you. They can almost smother your very existence. There is no time and space for just you and your inner wise voice.

Eliminate, eliminate, eliminate the unnecessary, simplify, simplify, simplify and create some breathing and being space around you.

3 - Let yourself marinate:

In a recent newsletter by Sandy Grason I absolutely fell in love with her newsletter talking about taking “time out” to marinate. No straight out of the fridge and into the frying habits here.

Spend some time with yourself hanging out and doing what you love even if they are work orientated things.

When you wake up feeling refreshed, alive and full of inspiration again then you know you have marinated long enough.

In fact perhaps a long weekend is needed to fully marinade yourself in your souls pleasure’s again.

4 - Journal:

The promise of a blank page can be the very starting point for opening up the communication between your mind/body and your inner wise voice.

No thinking is required, in fact back chat from your mind is definitely not acceptable simply ask your question and let the pen and your hand reveal the answers.

Repeat as often as you like until you feel the real truth has been revealed.

I mentioned recently after reading the fabulous soul searching book by Elizabeth Gilbert Eat, Pray and Love that she suggested you start each morning journaling by writing:

What do I really, really, really, want?

The key is to say really three times according to Elizabeth Gilbert and from my experience the really, really, really makes the connection to your inner guiding voice deeper and clearer.

    Thanks.

    Well written and great advice.

    I don’t get an hour a day.

My main discipline is to make sure I connect with others (but then I’m an introvert).

Great article!! It’s refreshing to read and I already feel relaxed just thinking about it. I must admit that I have never tried just sitting still for one whole hour, or if I have, I can’t remember when it would have been. I am looking forward to giving it a try. I bet my body will explode for sure :)

The image at the start of this thread inspires serenity. The ideas encourage and uplift us all. Taking time to marinate myself is as important as taking time to marinate the chicken dinner!
