Where do toxic emotions go once they have left your thoughts?

Ancient Wisdoms: A weekly feature:

The build up of arguments, illness, conflict, confusion, fear or frustration within your four walls can dramatically influence the flow of your life. What’s even more interesting it can affect your energy levels, cloud your thinking and cause the same situations to be repeated over and over again.

All those negative, draining and toxic emotions from the past if allowed to remain and build up (within your four walls) will keep you firmly stuck and linked to the past. They prevent lighter and more vibrant energies in the form of opportunities, expansion, love and health from entering. Toxic emotions left to linger and reside in your home keep your life on hold and lead to stagnancy.

I have passionately studied, researched and consulted all over the world for the last 20 years and without a doubt believe that the simple ritual of removing toxic energies from your home on a regular basis can be one of the most valuable life enhancing rituals you can add to your life. No matter which country I have traveled to or which ancient culture I have absorbed myself into they ALL have one absolute concrete thing in common - the ancient ritual of cleansing and purification. Their tools and processes may differ but the higher purpose and results are all the same. A home that nurtures, calms and comforts your soul.

Imagine each time you walk into your home you feel like it is

wrapping its arms around you and giving you the biggest hug ever.

Where do your toxic emotions go once released from your thoughts, feelings and words?:

Toxic human emotions in the form of thoughts, words, conversations and actions are heavy, cloying, thick and energy draining. If repeated often enough they will begin to cling to your floors, walls, ceiling and over time contribute greatly to the overall atmosphere felt within your home. All your possessions will then start absorbing these energies and you as a human being made of energy will start recycling second hand unwanted toxic human emotions. Where is the mental, physical and spiritual health in that?

It certainly does not matter how expensive or fabulous your home looks. Money can not buy GREAT ENERGY but conscious living can.

I’m sure most of us have experienced that feeling of walking into a room and knowing with certainty that an argument has just taken place even though you did not hear a thing. You simply felt it in the air.

The more intense the human emotion the stronger its presence can be felt and the longer it will linger in your home.

It is my greatest wish that we as human beings firstly become more mindful of just how toxic emotions can enter our homes and secondly be proactive in eliminating or reducing as many of them as possible. It then would be awesome if every home on this planet spent as little as 2 minutes a day uplifting its vibes.

How harmful emotions sneak into your home:

Let’s explore in a little more depth just how toxic, unwanted human emotions can easily sneak into your home and linger directly influencing the flow of your life.

  • TV (plenty drama, conflict, news etc)
  • Computers
  • Sound pollution
  • Music
  • Visitors, friends and family
  • Your thoughts, feelings and words
  • Thoughts and feelings of family members
  • Phone conversations
  • Media (radio, newspapers etc)
  • Next door neighbours
  • Your possessions and stuff
  • Your grocery and food supplies

In all of the above situations it’s the energy attached to the words, visuals, conversations, people or things that either detracts or adds value to the energetic presence of your home.

You might be interested to know that there are many people who cleanse the energy from their grocery items before they put them away into the cupboards. Supermarkets can hold a strong mixture of often frantic, stressed out energy which you then bring home with you in your grocery bag. Shopping in supermarkets is certainly not one of my most pleasant, joyful and uplifting experiences. Farmers markets on the other hand have a far more nourishing and nurturing feeling to the environment in which their produce is sold.

If I have a friend who is distressed or upset instead of having the conversation in my home we either go outside into nature or meet up somewhere else like a coffee shop.

If there is a conflict issue that needs to be resolved over the phone I will walk outside with my phone rather than let this energy filter into my home.

If my neighbors are noisy or troublesome rather than obsessing negative thoughts about them which only pulls their negative energies more easily into my home I will send only healing energies back to them. This is what you need to do if you want harmonious neighbours.

If the TV must be on I am mindful of the emotional energy it is filling my lounge room with. Simply notice how your body is reacting to the images, conversations and music that is pulsating from the television.

I am constantly playing mantras such as Om mani padme hum or Hawaiian chants or Balinese music anything that feels sacred and special. I do this continuously during the day so when my boys return home from school they are able to chill out and relax more quickly and flick off easily any drama they have picked up from school.

How often should I cleanse and uplift the energies in my home:

This is probably the single most frequent question I have been asked over the years and I don’t have a one size fits all solution. However common sense usually prevails. If there is lots of drama then lots of cleansing.

I would however recommend spending at least a couple of minutes each day cleansing and uplifting the vibes in your home irrespective of whether it feels great or not. After all the health of the energy filling in your home directly affects the well being and flow of your life.

If my children have been ill over winter then I will spend around 30 minutes removing the sickness energy with a combination of the tools suggested below until I sense that the bedroom and home feels right again. Sometimes I may need to repeat this over a couple of days. Your intuition will tell you.

If my children are fighting then I will shift and remove the energy instantly the moment it happens usually by clapping my hands which breaks up and disperses the energy, burning some sage or spraying with a space clearing mist.

Even if you feel your life is flowing well just through daily life and the energy currently filling our planet regular cleanses are recommended. After all just because you have good health doesn’t mean you can start eating junk food. To maintain good health you need to continually be supporting and nourishing your health. The same applies to the health of energy in your home.

How do I cleanse and uplift the energies in my home:

As boring as this may sound the simpler and less stuff you have in your home the easier it is to shift the energies that are swirling around you.

A good spring clean and clearing of clutter helps in a deep and profound way.

Your floor particularly carpet and rugs can hold a dense lower vibration of energy and therefore regular steam cleaning is recommended. The older the carpet the more memories and energy held.

It’s important to spend longer in the doorways, rooms or spaces where the most unpleasant emotional situations took place.

Choose a combination from any of the items below:

If you go to church or have been to ancient ritual from another culture just think of the different tools they use to keep their space feeling great such as incense, candles, holy water, chanting or a sound instrument such as bells just to name a few.

  • Dried white sage or smudge stick. I have personally used sage for over 20 years and I believe it to be one of the most effective in removing toxic energies and emotions. Make sure all the windows are open when cleansing with the smoke from the sage.

  • Sound is fabulous as it can penetrate to all corners of your home and can very quickly shifting the overall mood and feeling of any space. Consistency is the key here. Playing mantra’s, chanting, nature sounds or any sacred music that makes you feel “great” will automatically lift the vibration of any home. I personally use my Balinese Priest bells and harmony balls often to change the vibration in my home. Tibetan singing bowls or Tibetan symbols are easy to find and fill your home rather quickly with a peaceful and harmonious feel. Simply walk into each room and around your front entrance with your sound instrument staying one to five minutes as you the space needs it. Corners often need a little more attention as they can trap and hold toxic energy.

  • Chanting. Yes, you can use your own voice to culture of OM. It is extremely potent, very quick and can shift the most toxic of energies.

  • Clapping is simple and easy to do. If you are having trouble clapping a crisp clear clap then this is an indication that the energy in that space is rather sticky and thick. Keep clapping until your clap is crisp and clear. I personally would always use something else in addition to the clapping. Experiment and try clapping crisp clear claps in the corners of your rooms or in front of cupboards full of junk, you will be surprised.

  • If you can’t take your home to the ocean then bring the ocean to your home. Spray a mixture of water and sea salt into the air and around your possessions. Salt has been known for thousands of years to cleanse and purify and is used by many different cultures around the world in their cleansing rituals. Alternately you can sprinkle handfuls of rock salt onto the floor and leave for 24 hours then vacuum up. For strong toxic emotions sea salt is far more potent.

  • Essential oils. A healthy body frequency is around 62 to 78 hz. Rose oil has the highest vibration of all oils 320 Hz. I constantly burn essential oils during the day to uplift the energies around me. I use my intuition on a daily basis to decide which oil I will burn for the day.

  • Draw the figure eight on its side. In sacred geometry the infinity symbol emits a high vibration which I use often to improve the energies in my home. I simply walk into each room and draw the infinity symbol into each of the four directions.

  • The crystal black tourmaline literally transmutes negative energy. I have pieces placed around my home along with other crystals that work effortlessly at making sure I have light, expansive and uplifting energies filling my home. My favourite at the moment is amethyst clusters.

In India, ligting an oil lamp in front of god, buring incense sticks and saying a prayer is is very common evening ritual in many families. Grandparents/ parents together with their grandchildren will sit in front of the god and say some prayer. During the prayer we also ring the bells. With modernization many families are moving away from this family ritual. After reading your article, I realized how important these traditions are.
